We will also be honoring Dr. Maurice Brookhart, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Chemistry, for his contribution to innovation at UNC. Dr. Brookhart will also be our featured speaker and will share will us an overview of his work and the ongoing developments in the commercializiation of his research findings.
Dr. Brookhart received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins in 1964 and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1968, followed by a NATO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Southampton, England 1968-69. He joined the Chemistry department at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1969. Since then, he has held visiting professorships at both US and international institutions, received numerous awards for his achievements, served on advisory boards for many professional journals, and authored or coauthored hundreds of articles in his fields of research.
Dr. Brookhart’s current research interests involve synthetic and mechanistic organometallic chemistry with particular emphasis on the application of organometallic complexes in catalysis, and fundamental studies of C-H and C-C bond activations by transition metal complexes and incorporation of these bond activation steps into catalytic cycles.
